Planning Development Process

President Bowman charged the Vice Presidents to lead the process in updating the Campus Master Plan during his State of the University Address in September 2009. The Capital Planning and Budget Team was in turn charged by the Vice Presidents to lead the campus through this process.

Overview of Update Process

Drafts

Two drafts were released during the process for review. The first draft was released in July 2010. Extensive consultation was sought on the draft from the University and local communities. The result was a revised draft released in December 2010.

Information Gathering

Information Gathering Stage (July 2010 Draft)

Three public forums, an online survey, and meetings with groups were held in order to gather feedback on the July 2010 draft.

Forums and Online Survey

Beginning in November 2009, the Team began collecting public input on five general questions:

The following questions were asked during the public forums and online survey.

    • What do you like best about the Illinois State University campus?
    • What features of the campus need to be enhanced and/or changed? What is missing?
    • What physical or environmental changes are needed to enhance the experiences of students, faculty, staff, alumni, annuitants and visitors?
    • What priorities do you recommend for further development of the Gregory Street property (former location of University farm)?
    • What changes would you like to see in the next five years? The next 10 years?

Input was collected during four public forums along with an online survey. The feedback received during these input gathering opportunities is below.

Focused Meetings

The Team also met with specific groups on and off campus.
